Firstly, the conveying medium is different. Mud pump is the earliest pump type, generally made of cast iron with low wear resistance. As an important component of drilling machinery, it can only be used to transport mud or slurry containing suspended particles; The slurry pump is mainly used in the mining industry to transport slurry containing slag, and can also be used to transport mud, but its application is limited. Due to the fact that the flow components of the slurry pump are more susceptible to impact, wear, and corrosion from the slurry during operation, the slurry pump is usually lined with wear-resistant materials such as high chromium alloy, rubber, and other high wear-resistant materials, thus forming a wear-resistant slurry pump. This can effectively reduce the internal wear of the slurry pump, so most of the slurry pumps currently used in the market are wear-resistant slurry pumps.



Secondly, the mud pump needs to be equipped with auxiliary equipment, while the slurry pump does not. When working with a mud pump, it is often necessary to use it in conjunction with a high-pressure clear water pump. The high-pressure pump transports clear water that is greater than the pressure of the mud pump to the anti leakage packing to protect the packing, otherwise it is easy to cause wear on the sealing part; The wear-resistant slurry pump can independently complete the conveying work without the need for other auxiliary equipment.



Finally, the working principle is different. A mud pump is a motor that drives the piston to move through a connecting rod mechanism, causing a change in the volume of the enclosed chamber inside the mud pump, resulting in a change in the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the pump, thereby completing the process of water absorption and drainage; When the wear-resistant slurry pump is working, the motor drives the impeller to rotate, that is, the impeller does work on the slurry, increasing the kinetic energy of the slurry. At the same time, the slurry flows towards the edge of the impeller due to inertia and is discharged at a high speed through the discharge pipe.


In addition, due to the different application media of the two pumps, their application fields may also vary. Slurry pumps are mainly used in industrial sectors such as metallurgy, power, mining, and coal to transport slurry with solid particles, while mud pumps have always been mainly used in industries such as drilling, pharmaceuticals, brewing, and papermaking to transport suspended slurry.
